Abbot Godfrey was the second abbot of Inkamana and was elected on 8 February 2003 by the Chapter of Inkamana Abbey for a period of 12 years.
Abbot Godfrey was born on 26 June 1940 in Egling an der Paar in the Diocese of Augsburg.
He made his first monastic profession on 25 September 1961 and was ordained a priest on 4 September 1966.
He received his missionary assingment to Zululand on 29 June 1968 and transferred his monastic stability to Inkamana on 1 January 1992.
His previous assignments were:
Assistant Priest at Twasana from October 1968 to December 1968
Assistant Priest at Nkandla from January 1972 to February 1972
Assistant Priest at Empangeni from February 1972 to March 1972
Assistant Priest at Dumbe from March 1972 – May 1972
Assistant Priest at Vryheid from June 1972 to September 1972
Assistant Priest at Nongoma from September 1972 to September 1973
Parish Priest at Empangeni from Spetember 1973 to May 1985
Parish Priest at Richards Bay from January 1975 to May 1985
Parish Priest at Mondlo from February 1987 to May 1987
Parish Priest at Vryheid and Bhekuzulu from May 1987 to 2000
Abbot Godfrey served as the Secretary of the Benedictine Congregation of St. Ottilien and as such was a member of the Congregational Council of the Missionary Benedictines since 2000.
Abbot Godfrey is known as a diligent worker in every respect and as a dedicated pastor to the flocks entrusted to him.
